    1. It was an interesting story but I must say I did expect more. Naivety in the style didn’t bothered me too much, actually I think it has even contributed to the atmosphere of the story cause this way oral transmission (Mrabet to Bowles) can be fully sensed.I like the mysticism and superstitions of the Moroccans and the way Mrabet/Bowles presented them as something unquestionable. Also classifies this book as a “Gay Literature” which is utter nonsense that will probably repel many. Indeed ho [...]

    4. The pure, clean simplicity of Mrabet's lines (possibly distilled in translation) belie the charming, and lightly tourtured story -- one of young love and longing and poison and regret. The brisk read sparks with humour and small shocks while asking us just what the nature of true love is. There's enough drunken debauchery and fun to keep Love With A Few Hair from Romeo & Juliette territory, but the emotion is does find for the couple at its center is no less affecting. And how can you beat t [...]

    5. I found this book depressing. The protagonist is a fickle young man who quickly falls in and out of love with a girl. The girl suffers disastrous consequences, but the man arrives at the end of the story mostly unscathed. If it weren't for the suffering of the man before he extricates himself from the situation, one might think the story lauds the abandoning of familial/parental duty.

    6. This one, like most of Mrabet's work brings tears to my eyes. It is joyous, sad, sweet and beautifully translated/transcripted by Paul Bowles.
