    3. I received this book through Netgalley and must thank them and the publisher for letting me read it.I really enjoyed this book, and wish now that I had read the first book in this series. The police team in this book were all very believable and likeable, and I found that I was rooting for them throughout the book. The twists and turns which were happening as the book moved along kept me entertained and ensured that I wanted to keep reading.I would highly recommend this book.

    4. Ok,firstly I will start with a admission.I was wrong when I decided not to request the first book in this series The Murderers Son.I was going through a phase where I was getting fed up with books about troubled detectives or detectives that spend most of the book butting heads with arrogant colleagues/superior officers so I decided not to bother. After reading this gripping, twisty thriller I honesty regret that decision.A teenage girl is found wandering the muddy fens, she has been drugged and is [...]

    5. All my reviews can be found at thebookreviecafeDon’t you just love it when you pick up a book by an author you’ve never read before, with no expectations and it’s just so darn good you’re left wondering why and how you’ve never read this authors books before. That’s exactly how I’m feeling after picking up The Lost Daughters by Joy Ellis, my god it’s good, in fact it was that good it made for an outstanding and engrossing read and definitely one that I was reluctant to put down.T [...]

    6. If you can't tell from the cover illustration, this book is not for the faint of heart. It's the story of horrible, unspeakable crimes and the pain that led to them. However, the story is an amazing thriller which will keep readers on the edge of their seats. There's a lot of moving parts, but it all seems to come together in the end in the story of people that are dealing with their painful legacies. The story begins when the body of a young girl washes up on a beach, badly beaten. She was a bit [...]

    7. I was gripped straight away by his story, the body of a teenage girl is found washed up on the shore her body battered and bruised. Meanwhile two girls go to a party but only one girl returns found wandering in fields miles from home drugged and badly beaten before falling into a coma she says that her friend Emily has been abducted. DI Jackson and DS Evans, investigating, begin a search for the missing girl and the venue where the party was held and begin to make some alarming discoveries.I was [...]

    8. Oh I love, love, love, luuuurrv Joy Ellis' work! Having read nearly all of her Nikki Galena novels and both of the Jackman & Marie books I can honestly say she just keeps getting better with every book.Their Lost Daughters is the second of this newer series and hooked me from the very first line to the shocking, stunning & heartfelt conclusion. There is very rarely happy endings in crime mystery/police procedurals. Yes, you catch the perpetrator, and there is a sense of relief in that bu [...]

    9. This is the second book in the DI Rowan Jackman & DS Maria Evans series. This took me a while to read as at times I was finding it hard to read. But I kept dipping in and out of the storyline. I found it hard to read at times due to the nature of the story, but OH BOY am I glad I carried on. All the darkness made sense as it started coming together. I never saw the ending come together the way it did. I will definitely be reading more of Joy Ellis books in the future.

    11. An excellent read, this is my favorite Joy Ellis book so far. She just gets better and better!DI Jackson and DS Evansof are handling a case of particular evil. A girl, found wandering lost and confused, tells of her and her girlfriend's abduction. She was dumped, but the girlfriend was spirited away by the unknown men.At the same time Jackson and his team are told to re-open the case of the disappearance of a toddler years before. A dead girl is found, adding to their caseload, leaving everybody [...]

    12. This is the first book I have read by this author and is book 2 in the series. I like to read books in sequence and especially like to read the first book as this is when most of the character building takes place. However, this book does work very well as stand-alone and although I felt I had missed out on some of the history to the characters it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book. The story starts with a dead girl case landing on the desk of Rowan Jackman and then a cold case is added into [...]

    13. This is the first Joy Ellis book I’ve read and needless to say it won’t be the last. The crime solving combination of Jackson, Marie, Rosie and Max is a one that ideally should be viewed on at least the small screen. I never say this easily but for this one, I could literally see the screenplay emerging as I read the book.As the title suggests there can’t be anything scarier than Missing or Lost Daughters and Joy Ellis tackles the subject with a finesse and certitude of a true blue crime a [...]

    15. It is easy to become addicted to Joy Ellis’s novels.  Her police procedurals would make excellent movies.  The cases are complex, compelling and always unique.  Her investigators are distinct individuals you come to care about.  Their Lost Daughters features DI Rowan Jackman and DS Marie Evans. If you enjoy reading the Nikki Galena novels, you will definitely enjoy these as well.Their Lost Daughters tackles a very difficult subject - the grooming of teens.  Teens are being lured to partie [...]

    16. One of the best I've read this year or in awhile. The suspense, the evil, seeing what can happen to a child who is brutally abused or even witnesses abuse. Their adult years are a result of those early years. Some never get over it, some become what they hated and feared so much.A great read right up to the end. You want justice, but there's that part of you that empathy for the ones who learned what they lived and knew no other way. I highly recommend Their Lost Daughters by Joy Ellis. Am looki [...]

    17. Gripping TenseHaving read all of Joy Ellis books this is by far the best this lady has so much talent she is up there with Martina Cole and Linda La plants and she is a must read I would nominate her for all the crime writing award sHeer fen books are captivating but this book oh my gosh brilliant Tom Waters

    18. The plot was interesting and beautifully paced, but I couldn't get over how badly the dialogue was written - incredibly stilted and formal, totally unbelievable for police officers in pursuit. This might seem like a minor qualm, but this book has so much dialogue that it really is important to get it right.

    19. Sometimes when you read a book, it can take you a couple of chapters to get into it. I was hooked on this book after a couple of paragraphs! I had never read anything by this author, and being honest I hadn't heard of her. Not one to just follow the more well known authors I was happy to try and find myself another author to read. There was so much content in this book and each story line blended seamlessly. As the blurb says, two girls go to a party & only one returns; also a young girl has [...]

    20. Amazing, kept me hooked! Written well, wasn’t too political or scientific like some books, characters were solid and the story was complicated enough to stay interesting but not so complicated that it was confusing, and also emotional - more complex than evil vs good, definitely recommend!!

    21. Short Take: Exhausting read!!The story started out pretty promising, only to add in too many elements that made it more complex and elaborate for an investigative mystery. While the story itself was interesting, it was not a page turner for me and that was very disappointing. By the end, I just wanted it done! :(

    22. Thoroughly enjoyed my first encounter with Jackman and Evans. As well as great plot with the twists and turns that make a great crime thriller, the detailed descriptions of police and forensic procedures added real depth. I found myself totally involved as Jackman and Marie worked to solve crimes involving missing girls and really wanted them to succeed. The book has a bit of a slow start but then moves at a very fast pace - couldn't put it down but was sorry to see the end as I was so engrossed [...]

    23. This is a surprising twisted book. Starts out slow, and then it really starts getting exciting as they start figuring out what is happening and who is involved.

    24. I was very disappointed with this book, I wish I had just left it when I initially wanted to. I found it a real slog to read, the writing was poor and the storyline ridiculous. I hated the way everything so neatly fitted together at the end. I found the characters so cliched and not in any way original. I love this genre but unfortunately this book did not do it justice.

    25. I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for a review copy of Their Lost Daughters, the second police procedural to feature DI Rowan Jackman and DS Marie Evans in Saltern-le-Fen, Lincolnshire. The team have their hands full. Just as they are starting to investigate the suspicious death of missing teenager Shauna Kelly they are instructed to re-open the case of Kenya Black, a child who went missing years ago, and make it their number one priority as her mother is about to launch a press ini [...]

    26. I am shocked at the number of high ratings for this book! I can give some credit to the idea, there was definitely a good concept and I did find myself wanting to know what happens, eventually. However, the characters could have been the same person talking the entire time, the plot convenience was off the charts and the amount of cliched lines made me actually moan out loud on occasion. I really had trouble with the way it was written, it was so dull and had no flair. Then, considering this is a [...]

    27. Joy Ellis is a new author to me and Their Lost Daughters was simply brilliant. Although it is book two in the series, it worked well as a standalone but I am sorry that I didn’t read The Murderers Son first, only because I loved this one so much. There is evidence of an illegal drinking club run by a shadowy group of men, who are grooming teenagers. And the team come across a sinister former hospital called Windrush which seems to house many dark secrets.DI Rowan Jackman and DS Maria Evens are [...]

    28. Lost storyInteresting story . however, there were more characters than I cared to keep up with in such a short venue. Thus I didn't feel "gripped" by any of the occurrences or involved with was happening to any individual. Some of the English terminology was hard to follow, which surprised me because I list a couple of UK authors among my favorites and have found the different vernaculars to bring an enhancing difference to their story lines that I quite enjoy. I am sorely disappointed that the [...]

    29. excellent book, starts a little slow but all of a sudden it really takes off. I really enjoyed reading this book and it kept me guessing all the way through. The characters are very interesting and very believable. Great story line. This should be on your reading list

    30. On a cold and wet morning the body of a young woman is found on a deserted beach. DI Rowan Jackman, DS Marie Evans and their team already have a heavy workload when their supervisor assigns the case to them.Their investigations uncover something more sinister than expected after another girl disappears and her friend found disoriented and injured. A series of well organized rave parties appear to the common thread linked to the girls. As events gather momentum Jackman and his team find themselves [...]
