    1. In the sleepy town of Shady Hollow, the woodland creatures mostly get along peacefully, thanks in part to their vegetarian diets. But the resident ornery toad, Otto, is now forever resting in peace. Will the police solve his murder, or will the town's amateur sleuths, news reporter Vera Vixen and her pal Lenore Lee, mystery lover and owner of the bookshop, find enough clues to nab the killer before another creature dies? Anyone who has enjoyed Agatha Christie's books or the quirky whodunits on M [...]

    2. I really enjoyed the book and I look forward to the next in the series (no pressure!). The universe of the characters contains enough detail to immerse you in the world, and it's so well-edited. No detail or word is wasted. I appreciate that a lot. There are enough threads of storylines/character interest that a future volume could take any course, which is neat. This is the first mystery in a long time that was distracting enough that I wasn't trying to read and solve the crime at the same time [...]

    3. This was a quick, easy read. The characters, being animals, were fun with their personalities that matched up with their animal traits. The mystery wasn't very mysterious, but it was a well created world that kept me interested.

    4. It was over too soon! Such a fun, creative read. I feel lucky to know these two talented writers, and can't wait to read more.

    5. A fantastic who-dun-it mystery written by local authors that work at Boswell Books!

    6. Fun mix of animal fable and murder mystery. The mystery ends up being pretty standard but that’s not the point; it’s about the different animal personalities. The one thing that’s gets a little strange is some of the suggested inter species relationships, which I know is probably being too literal but I barely stopped myself from wondering how that was physically possible in a few cases, and now it bugs me.

    7. This was a delightful, whimsical murder mystery, proving that such a thing is possible. The characters were well illustrated and it was a treat to have a murder mystery that was absent of gore and foul language, not that I am a prude by any means, but it didn't fit in with the nature of the book as a whole. A charming book that everyone is sure to enjoy, up to the cliff hanging end!

    8. I was first drawn to this book because of the quirky premise - it's promise of 'Twin Peaks meets Fantastic Mr. Fox'. I love both of those things so I thought I'd love this book. As it turns out, the only thing it really had in common with Mr Fox is the animal characters, and the only thing it had in common with Twin Peaks is the sleepy town. The mystery of Shady Hollow's first murder could easily have been done with human characters, but only at the risk of making it less significant. Since this [...]

    9. Gotta love a small town rocked by murder long as it’s all fiction, of course!I was more or less raised on Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, so when I was offered an ARC of this novel pitched as “Agatha Christie + Beatrix Potter = dapperly dressed animals commit and solve crime”, I was in. (Besides, the book’s cover is just five kinds of fantastic!)The story of “Shady Hollow” is much like the town from which the title takes its name—cute and quirky, fluffy and fun, with a touch of [...]

    10. Which part of murder mystery starring forest creatures *aren't* you interested in? Also, LOOK AT THAT COVER. Juneau Black's writing is crisp and cogent--the kind of writing that makes you forget you're reading. The characters are roundly rendered, the book is peppered with clever allusions, and I could not guess whoddunnit. I'm hoping for sequels on sequels on sequels.

    11. The cover was very well designed and connects you with the story. Great character development and perfectly set up for many exiting story lines. You can look up "aaronboydart" to get a better idea at some character illustrations like Mr. Beaverpelt and Howard Chitters. This book can be enjoyed by YA and adults alike.Cannot wait for the next book in the series.

    12. I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and I'm so glad I did. I've never read a book quite like this. The idea of talking animals in an adult mystery is so, so terrific, and the characters here are well-drawn and fun to read about (my favorites were the snake and owl). Oh, and such clever wordplay! All in all, very charmed by this unusual story.

    13. A thoroughly enjoyable tale, with crisp writing (I read it slowly in order to savor every well-chosen word) and a vividly realized world full of creatures I want to know better. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

    14. This book is gorgeous both inside and out, from the author's adept use of words to the stunning cover. The anthropomorphism of the characters was so seamless I almost forget, on several occasions, that they were foxes and bears.I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.

    15. Cute idea, pretty basic plot. It IS fun that the writers themselves are friend just like the raven and the fox in the story.
