    1. I purchased this Abridged edition of Moby Dick on trip to Nantucket Island, made exclusively to visit the Whaling Museum there. I brought my sons in hopes of providing them an accurate and rich mental image of the mammoth struggle between man and beast which fueled the economy of early America, and the imagination of Herman Melville. This abridged version makes a rather dense and challenging classic book accessible to readers because 1) the passages included are original and not massacred by rew [...]

    2. Well, we have to love the Ahabs of the world, don't we? His passion is unmatched and it ends up being the one thing he can't escape. Too bad he brings everyone else down with him! His madness was tangible. Melville's writing is fabulous. It has such a poetic strain to it. Totally enjoyed this particular edition with pictures and all. (I was also reminded of the book "Ahab's Wife" which gave such insight into this incredible man.)

    3. i realize that i am one of the only humans in the world who adores this novel (although it is also cormac mccarthy's favorite).
