    1. One of the best things about novels like this is that they take a very sensitive subject and bring it to the forefront allowing for discussion on the topic. Even though a great deal of individuals would like to ignore or even deny its existence, spousal abuse does exist. MacAlister takes the subject and creates an amazingly realistic and very gripping story from it.I loved the fact that this was not your stereotypical romance novel. Yes, it had the elements. Girl falls for boy. Boy falls for gir [...]

    2. Romance isn't a genre I read very much as I tend to find the stories unrealistic and I prefer something a bit more gritty and down to earth. Well this book is about as gritty as anyone could ask for and especially at the beginning is a very tough read! Our heroine Kate is in a terrible, abusive relationship with the worst man one could imagine. But from the early pages you have to continue reading to discover where the story will lead. The book moves at a fast pace and the author has done a grea [...]

    3. Heartshaped shards follows the emotional roller coaster of kate, a victim of domestic abuse. Suffering at the hands of her violent husband, Kate is left scarred inside and out. you follow her amazing journey as she heals her mind, body and soul. Although an extremely tough read at the beginning which had me crying so much I couldn't read the words on the page, you instantly love kate and want to see how she can rebuild her life. Most of the book is set either in Ireland or Scotland and therefore [...]

    4. Heart shaped shards is a sad story with a beautiful ending. The suffering of the main character is very palatable. Even more so knowing that the author went through a terrible time herself. The pain and fear are so real, you want to reach out inside the book and wrap your arms around Kate. So when Shay does just that, it is such a relief! Kate gets destroyed both physically and mentally and starts a long road to recovery. But she does not believe in herself, she does not believe she can get to a [...]

    5. Heartshaped Shards is a tough read in the beginning. Kate Kincaid is in a horrible relationship and her husband is a monster in my opinion. One night he beats her and leaves her for dead. She doesn't die, but she’s emotionally and physically scarred. Luckily for Kate she has two incredible friends to help her through it. During a trip to Ireland and Scotland she discovers something about herself. I won’t say too much more since I don’t want to ruin the story. This novel is an emotional rol [...]

    6. Sweet romance story!Heart Shaped Shards opens with a horrific scene of the main character, Kate being beaten by her husband. Near death, Kate fights to recoup from the beating, and regain her sense of self again. Through the story, we witness Kate change, and take chances again. She learns to trust that not all men want to hurt her, and in letting her guard down, learns to love. Characters were well-written and I could easily picture them. I really enjoyed the UK setting and giant, brawny Scotti [...]

    7. I had quite a bit of trouble writing this review because Heart Shaped Shards touched me so deeply. It’s the kind of book that stays with you long after you turn the last page. Ria has done an outstanding job in crafting a story that is reality for so many people. The characters and story are so well-developed, I really had trouble putting it down. The storyline, the way Kate and Shay interact with each other, is truly addicting and completely entertaining.Ria has a voice that needs to be heard [...]

    8. I want to start by saying Ria MacAlister did a great job in writing this book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. It was an extremely well written book. I felt all of Katie's pain and fears like they were my own. I got lost in this book. Ria made the charcters seem like they were real. This wonderful book had me on an emoitional rollercoaster, but in a good way. I would recommend this book. I really can't wait for the next book.

    9. I don’t normally read love stories but this book captivated me.Horrible husband-battered wife relationship. The emotionally scarred wife, Kate, picks up the pieces and….The power of love.Hey! I’m not going to reveal further. Read the book!Ria, good job! Looking forward to more from you.
