    1. Beacause I enjoyed Eddison's "Gardening for Life" I was happy to find this a used bookstore in Northhampton, Massachusetts while visiting my younger son. (We had a wonderful day exploring used bookstores. Is there any better way to spend a vacation?) Eddison shares her gardening experience and hard won expertise with us, her successes and failures. She wants to prevent us from making the mistakes she did. Unfortunately I had already made some of them before I read her book! Eddison's voice is wa [...]

    2. Lovely book. Just a long conversation about gardening, thoughtfully illustrated in pencil and occasional watercolor. On a personal note, I could read books like this and The Edge of the Sea all day. I only wish that meant I could also remember what was in them. Still, this is one to return to.

    3. Packed with practical advice on a wide range of topics. The author encourages the reader to learn from the author's mistakes, but also encourages the reader to experiment and learn from the reader's own mistakes.I read the library copy, but this is a book well worth buying and reading many times. As I read the book, I felt that the author was a kindred spirit. If I were going to have a gardening buddy, the author would be on my short list.

    4. The Self Taught Gardener: Lessons From A Country Garden by Sydney Eddison (Viking 1997)(635.9). This book is a great overview of the planting season and the required tasks from start to finish. My rating: 6.5/10, finished 4/19/12.
