    1. His Mistake – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat“Are you alright?” she said. Her body was shaking. “I’m so sorry, I couldn’t see. You’re not hurt, are you?” She waited for a response. When none came she quickly reached for the door of the car. A hand then came up and squeezed her shoulder. He again spoke in German. His foul breath was like a slap in her face. “I-I don’t speak German,” she stammered. Without a word, he grabbed her and threw her face do [...]

    2. This was chosen for my book club. We had just finished a really heavy read, so a novella was a great choice. I instantly fell in love with the feel of the story, the characters, and the writing. Some novellas feel really rushed, but this didn't. This is a great love story, without the play-by-play love scenes in typical romance genre (sorry romance lovers), great historial feel. The story truly touched me, and I actually cried. I was going to give it 4 stars because I wish I were longer, but I t [...]

    3. I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book through the first reads giveaways, and I really enjoyed it! Engrossed from the first few pages, I liked the characters and settings. I found the pace to be good without feeling rushed. I hadn't read a novella before and for a short story I was really impressed at how much depth it contained. There were some very poignant moments where the author conveyed the emotions of the characters situation beautifully. Just goes to show, sometimes less is more!I [...]

    4. His Mistake is a romance set against the horror of Europe during World War I. The author skillfully takes the main character, a young woman married to a war correspondent several years older than she is, from London to France and eventually to Germany. She experiences both personal trauma and the upheavel of the European society before she finds her way toward love and life as a mature woman. I read this book in a day and found it delightful. Although the setting is historical, the romance is wh [...]

    5. First Reads giveaway win! This was a nice, light read, quite enjoyable. Frances was a very flighty girl when she first married Reggie, but the war (WW1) changed all that. She had to live in Germany while Reggie was a war correspondent with the Times, so she was alone a lot. She met two people who were to become very special in her life, Elsha, a young German woman, and Derek, a Belgian art student. The traumas of war, mixed with love, friendship and loyalty make an enjoyable read.

    6. I won this book in a FIRST READS GIVEAWAY, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I find it hard to review, since I don't read many novellas. It's more succinct than what I normally read, and I kept finding myself wishing there was more! This is certainly a compliment to the author's writing.I enjoyed following the main character's journey to maturity, and, being a romantic at heart and a sucker for a happy ending, was wooed by the plot and characters.I'm sure we will be seeing more from this author.
